Hewlett-Packard encourages broadband use – plus video storage on Snapfish

Issue #0607/3 - Extending its online photo storage, sharing and printing service to accept video footage as well as still photographs, is sure to make Hewlett-Packard’s Snapfish even more popular. Already boasting approaching 20 million users, Snapfish recently bought the PIXACO to give it extended European market coverage.

In order to make good use of these services from Hewlett-Packard, users will need to take the step of signing up for a broadband connection to the internet – and, again, Hewlett-Packard is prepared to help!

the internet online
Hewlett-Packard has done a deal with the UK’s British Telecom to promote BT Broadband to its customers, promising a welcome cheque incentive of at least £20 to anyone ordering the service through the Hewlett-Packard promotion. There is no specific Hewlett-Packard involvement in the BT service (BT also has marketing agreements with other UK entities), this is only a means for Hewlett-Packard to encourage more of its own customers online with a connection fast enough to make use of Snapfish.

As estimated penetration of broadband passes the 50% mark of home internet users and approaches 40% of homes, services like Snapfish become more attractive.

It has already been noted that Snapfish users in the New Orleans area were very grateful to have their digital photographs backed-up on Snapfish when hurricane Katrina struck, but this is far from the only reason for using a service of this nature.

Families with members around the world are easily able to share their photos and now videos in an instant, without incurring expensive copying and postage costs. Individual family members can purchase prints of the photos from Snapfish at rates that compete aggressively with even the lowest cost retails outlets – 10 pence in the UK / 10 cents in the Euro zone / 12 cents in the US.

There is a price to the video storage service - £15.99 / $24.99 per year or £1.99 / $2.99 per month – but there is no limit to the storage space users can occupy and the digital photo storage service is still free. As an incentive to join Snapfish, Hewlett-Packard is offering one month free. The standard offer of 30 free prints for new members is still running.
