Hewlett-Packard unveils new generation home ink jet printer and two new digital cameras

Issue #0206/2 - Deskjet 3420 - June 24th, Hewlett-Packard unveiled its new photo quality home ink jet printer, Deskjet 3420 at a recommended street price of just EUR 99. This printer is targeted at families and personal users and features a new design and folding paper tray that help the unit fit into the image conscious home environment. Although this model incorporates HP’s Photoret III technology (as opposed to the new 6-ink Photoret IV system) photographic quality on glossy paper is still almost indistinguishable from high street printed photographs. As an alternative, users may print in 2400 x 1200 dpi mode if they wish. Printer connection is via USB 2.0 only and the unit is shipped with HP Printer Assistant, which HP says helps to identify and solve problems. Another feature (that is sadly missing on many printers) is a print cancel button and the Deskjet 3420 also has ink level indicators.
