Xerox holds European consumables pricing while Lexmark imposes further increases

Issue #0527/3 - No changes at Xerox yet as the US Dollar strengthens but Lexmark raises prices for the second month running.

Following recent price increases around Europe by Hewlett-Packard and Lexmark as a result of a mild strengthening of the US Dollar, it is now noted that Xerox has held its prices steady, at least for the time-being. Justifying that decision, the Dollar did suffer a reversed trend, weakening against the Euro again between early July and early September.

This decision to maintain the current level of pricing is in keeping with Xerox’ policy of taking a longer term view of exchange rates in its accounting than Hewlett-Packard or Lexmark.

In stark contrast, Lexmark is exceptionally sensitive to exchange rate fluctuations and has again raised prices in the UK. Affecting 85% of consumables products, the changes average an increase of 3% although there are isolated reductions.

All consumables for laser printers are affected, both mono and colour, and, although the average increase is just 3% on mono products and 4.4% on colour products, maximum changes are noted at 11% and 32% respectively. These high increases are found on toners for several legacy mono products and on the low-end C510 colour laser printer.

Ink price changes are rather more sedate, with an average increase of just 0.6%, affecting 79% of products with maximum increases of 2% and some reductions of up to 4.4%. Prices on media products are reduced by an average of 2% but only just over half are affected.
