UK printer owners suffer from continuing Sterling slide as Hewlett-Packard raises supplies prices

Issue #0806/2 - Following the 6.4% increase in supplies pricing by Lexmark UK in January, Hewlett-Packard announced increases averaging 5.8% for the UK in February, as expected. No changes are made to supplies prices in the Euro-zone.

Although most of the changes are strictly exchange rate corrections, there are a few strategic products that come in for more special treatment – i.e. higher price increases of up to 10%!

On the inkjet side of the business these are most notably the HP21 and HP336 black inks for popular Deskjet and Photosmart models, together with a wide range of HP88, HP10, HP11 and HP14 inks and print heads for the Business Inkjet range.

Almost all of the inks for other home and office-based inkjet printers have price increases above average while below average increases are reserved for the graphic design products. The most notable exception is the HP363 range of individual ink cartridges for a variety of Photosmart All-in-One printers, which are not increased at all.

Increases on toner prices are not as wide ranging at all, with highest increases (7%) reserved for several low-end mono laser printer models.

Price increases have not followed yet from fellow US manufacturers, Xerox and Dell.
