Issue #0504/3 - Struggling to compete in this category, Hewlett-Packard reduces pricing.

Hewlett-Packard has shaved 9.5% to 11% off the pricing of its single-pass Colour LaserJet 3500 and 3550 models in a bid to improve competitivity in an accelerating print speed market.
At 12/12ppm and 16/16ppm respectively, previous levels of pricing on these models are no longer sustainable against pricing such as £559 for the 25/35ppm (colour/mono) Dell 5100CN and £519 for the 16/24ppm Oki C5200n – both network ready.
Dell 5100cnHewlett-Packard has to maintain its position in this particular market segment with these machines because it does not yet have a 24/24ppm, or faster, A4 model available – the company simply does not have a colour laser printer that competes on speed.
Just to rub salt in the wound, Dell currently has a special offer running (in the UK only) on the 5100cn that puts the price as low as £447 (for a network-ready, duplex, single pass colour laser printer!).
