Dollar crash forces more supplies pricing reductions

Issue #0619/2 - As the US Dollar remains particularly week against other currencies, Xerox pull a number of supplies prices down.

Although the absence of price reductions on supplies products from Hewlett-Packard in June does not immediately confirm the assumption made that supplies price reductions made by Lexmark in May were currency related, we have now seen price reductions from Xerox, the other US-based printer manufacturer.

With its long lead times on pricing adjustments, it is still possible that any currency related adjustments from Hewlett-Packard will come in July.

Average reductions from Xerox are 6% but made on only 22% of products. Percentage reductions range between 9% and only 1%.

Of the office printer products currently available from Xerox, only two colour and three mono products are affected.

Colour printers affected are the workgroup A3 printer, Phaser 7400 (av. reduction of only 1.6%), and the relatively new Phaser 6120 A4 colour laser printer (av. reduction 5%). This leaves the graphic arts oriented A3 device and the workgroup laser and solid ink devices unaffected.

In the mono range, all current printers, apart from the mainstream low-cost 33ppm workgroup laser printer, Phaser 3500 are affected. Average reductions range from 4% to 6.7%.

Many toner products and a few drums or maintenance kits are reduced in the recent legacy product line-up, whereas older legacy products remain unaffected. Furthermore, none of the current range of solid ink devices are affected. Average reductions range from 4% to 8% with the majority falling between 7% and 8%
