Dell charges Large Businesses a premium over Small Businesses

Issue #0616/3 - Not only are there web site discrepancies but Dell charges large customers more than small customers for printers.

In addition to having inconsistencies within its web site regarding prices quoted for products, Dell also appears to charge different types of customers different amounts for most printer products.

Dell splits its web site into four categories — Home; Small Business; Medium-sized Business; and Large & Global Organisations.

Each of these categories seems to carry its own pricing structure. We’re going to focus on the Small and Large Business sectors and show how the prices of laser printers vary between them.

There is only one product that has no price difference and that is the 26ppm 1710 mono laser printer.

Pricing on Dell’s other mono laser printers differ by only a couple of percent between the two sectors. Similarly, the differences for two of the three colour laser printers are also only 2% and 3.8%.

Remarkable pricing differences exist, however, where the Colour Laser Printer 3000cn and all the inkjet printers are concerned. Here we see differences as high as 75% (3000cn). Also high is the difference between pricing of the 810AiO inkjet printer (58%).

Perhaps it is significant that these two models are both the low-end members of their respective categories ?
