Another call for greater clarity in pricing

Issue #0610/3 - Total Cost of Ownership again comes to the forefront as Hewlett-Packard’s Personal Systems Group (PSG) is reportedly encouraging resellers to push the message with small-sized companies. Hidden costs cause the actual cost of owning office hardware to be a total mystery to many small companies.

This underlines how low the level of understanding is, and how little notice smaller organisations take, of the overall cost of their equipment. Hewlett-Packard would like resellers to focus on support and not to enter into price competitions.

While talking specifically about PCs in this instance, the principle is transferable to printers as many in the industry call for greater clarity in supplies pricing. By definition, it is the various hidden costs and background support costs that cause the biggest headaches.
