Management counts

Issue #0724/2 - Management costs cannot be ignored and it is management that determines hard copy strategy.

There is a school of thought that says ‘it’s not the cost of purchasing that matters, it’s the cost of management.

Management is an issue that is ongoing, with an organisation’s performance entirely depending on the efficiency and success of the management.

Microsoft claims that its new Vista operating system can reduce management costs by as much as 63% (see TCPglobal Issue #0639 "Printer support for enhanced colour capabilities of Microsoft Vista") but suggestions are that this could be a while coming in all its fullness. Some users are said to be keen to remove Vista and roll their PCs back to Windows XP while it seems that large organisations and corporations may well be deliberately delaying rolling out Vista upgrades.

This certainly fits the scenarios suggested in the main article of this issue "Old habits die hard - Why changing people is one of the major keys to Cost of Printing". Management prefers systems that have proven reliability while new systems have to prove their reliability and benefits.
