Issue #0338/4 - Inexpensive to buy and expensive to run characterises the new single-pass Color LaserJets 3500 and 3700.

Also new from Hewlett-Packard this week are the two members of the Color LaserJet 3X00 family, which join the line-up ostensibly to bring low cost single-pass colour to the SMB market.

Issue #0337/2 - Exchange rate adjustments only — except for a hard disk!

Hewlett-Packard price changes for November, in terms of printer products, again have been largely limited to exchange rate adjustments – ranging between –0.9% and -3.4% with the exception of one product. These changes have been almost exclusively applied in Sweden with a few scattered adjustments in Switzerland, Norway, Denmark and Italy.

Issue #0337/4 - Consumers are spending, and favouring Dell, but are buying PCs (especially mobiles) not printers.

IDC Europe is reporting that, in the UK, the boom in consumer spending is behind the overall year-on-year growth of 17.4% in shipments of PCs in the third quarter of this year. Supporting this growth (also evident in Germany) is an apparent preference for mobile computing power. Notebook shipments grew by almost 40% year-on-year while desktops could only manage 9% growth.
